OUR HISTORY

On March 15, 1965, Fred Glenn began what would become GBP&B as a sole proprietor in a small office on Marsh Street, in San Luis Obispo, California. During the next fifteen years, Stephen Burdette, David Phillips, and David Bryson joined the firm and in 1988 the firm name was changed to Glenn, Burdette, Phillips & Bryson, Certified Public Accountants, A Professional Corporation.

In 1985, the firm built the office building at 1150 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo, where our main office is still located. By 1993, we had expanded to almost fifty employees and were providing tax and accounting services throughout all of San Luis Obispo County.

In 1998, we opened an office in Paso Robles to serve our north San Luis Obispo County clients and in 2004, we opened an office in Santa Maria for our northern Santa Barbara County clients.

In June 2000, we became the first California CPA firm to form an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) and changed our name to GBP&B Tax and Business Advisors, demonstrating that our commitment to our clients is a priority with every member of our organization.

The firm has historically been members of the SEC practice section, and became charter members of the Center for Public Company Audit Firms when it formed on January 1, 2004 in response to Sarbanes-Oxley and the establishment of the Public Companies Accounting Oversight Board.

We currently have ten Principals and more than fifty employees with an all-encompassing breadth of knowledge and experience. Not only do we have the largest audit and tax departments on the Central Coast, we provide consulting, management, and other accounting services to clients across many industries.

We are actively involved in our community and our staff members serve on multiple boards, committees and project teams. Our staff regularly contribute to professional forums and are requested as guest lecturers at the local college and university. We have employees celebrating anniversaries of more than 25 years at the firm and we work hard to maintain our “family firm” feel.
